In January 2021 BURTON Albion Community Trust (BACT) joined an English Football League Trust (EFLT) initiative to give 500 young people a work opportunity, as part of the Kickstart scheme.
A total of 65 EFL clubs signed up to be involved, offering six-month work placement roles to young people aged 16-24 who are claiming Universal Credit – the aim, to give young people the opportunity to build their skills in the workplace and gain experience, to improve their chances of finding long-term work.
Burton Albion Community Trust’s first Kickstart appointment was Corrin Sheldon, 24 from Burton upon Trent, previously Corrin had worked in Jersey for Handpicked Hotels.
Corrin joined the team as Kickstart administration assistant, bringing her experience from the leisure and hospitality industry, her hope was to continue to develop the skills needed to build a career in this sector.
After 6 months with Burton Albion Community Trust working across various scopes of work, Corrin is joining the trust full time from October as Community Business Administrator.
“During my Kickstart placement I have been working across Health and Wellbeing, Football in the Community and the general business, doing a range of different tasks.”
“These included helping out on the weekly over 50’s sessions by creating quizzes, supporting our wellbeing walks, and undertaking general administrative tasks. I have also helped at the vaccine centre and other sessions across the trust which I have thoroughly enjoyed.“
“I have now been offered a full-time position with BACT as a Community Business Administrator within the facilities team.”
“My goal is to go into management, BACT and the Kickstart scheme have given me the opportunity to work towards a Level 2 in Leadership and Team Skills. I am now able to line manage a new Kickstart employee.”
“Thank you BACT for everything you have done!”
