Burton Albion Community Trust (BACT) have once again teamed up with African Adventures to offer the opportunity of a lifetime in to visit the West African country of Ghana, next April.

The BACT team will spend 10 nights working in schools in Woe, the Volta region of Ghana. The trip aims to raise funds for BACT, whilst supporting African Adventures’ partner projects in Ghana and providing local people with a life-changing experience.

Monies raised will enable BACT to continue support work within the local community, working with people in disadvantaged areas and communities within East Staffordshire. More specifically, funds will go towards targeted disability groups that are currently set up, as well as new sessions that are on the horizon.

From 4th April – 14th April 2020 , the team of volunteers will spend 7 nights working in local schools and supporting other community projects.

Volunteers can choose how they help, with project roles ranging from teaching in schools and working with underprivileged children, to football and multi-school training.

The trip will support African Adventures’ Community Development Pledge, which provides resources and micro-finance to all projects it supports.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome but under 16’s must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. There is no upper age limit.

John Widdowson, Community and Partnerships Manager, who is leading the trip, is eager for people from Burton upon Trent and surrounding area’s to get involved in this opportunity of a lifetime. He said: “This will be the sixth year that BACT have endeavoured to send a group of volunteers from the community out to Ghana, for what promises to be an amazing experience for all.

“We have had fantastic support from our local business and community leaders and last year proved to be a massive success and the trust are very proud of the work and effort of all involved.

“The children that you meet, the locals you encounter and the community workers you assist are all truly fantastic people. These trips really do make a difference”.

There will also be an adventure weekend with a visit to Cape Coast and Kakum national rainforest, which will be included at the end of this unique experience.  After each day’s hard work, the accommodation is just minutes from the beach.
