BURTON Albion Community Trust are pleased to launch a new 4-week challenge which will help people to keep fit and active.
“Billy’s Runners” is a 4 week challenge that’s been set-up in order to help promote physical and mental wellbeing during the lockdown period.
Following the announcement that gym’s and leisure centres would closed, and all other forms of sporting activity is postponed until December at the earliest, our very own Billy Brewer has set out a plan to help people overcome the thought of becoming unfit during this period.
The challenges will feature three different levels from 1-3, with a range in difficulty for people to aim for:

|Week 1: Monday 16th November – Sunday 22nd November||2.5km||5km||7.5km|
|Week 2: Monday 23rd November – Sunday 29th November||5km||7.5km||10km|
|Week 3: Monday 30th November – Sunday 6th December||7.5km||10km||15km|
|Week 4: Monday 7th December – Sunday 13th December||10km||15km||20km|
Participants will have 7 days to complete each challenge and can be completed however you want to, whether you do 1km over 5 days or a single 5km on one day for example. Each week’s challenge will start on a Monday and finish on a Sunday.
Each week gets progressively more difficult, but it’s completely up to you how you complete it. You can walk, jog, run, bike, even go on a scooter… it’s your choice!
Please feel free to pass this onto your family and friends – the more that tke part, the better. You can complete this alone or with members of your household, but please do not join another household as per government guidelines.
If for some reason you cannot not leave your house during this period don’t worry, you can still get involved! Billy Brewer will be aiming to complete a 5k run within 30 minutes, so as long as you can do the equivalent to that with some other form of home exercise, that will count towards your total! There are lots of free home workout resources on YouTube for example, that you can do from the comfort of your living room.
All results will need to be recorded by the Strava app (or equivalent) which is free to download and use. Billy Brewer has an account and will be posting each time he does his run. His results will be posted on the Twitter account @BillyBrewerBAFC so you can track his progress, so please go and follow him on Strava and Twitter. You can also post your weekly results on Twitter by tagging @BillyBrewerBAFC and using the Hashtag #BillysRunners (along with a photo if possible), which will be retweeted.
As an incentive for anyone taking part, when you hashtag #BillysRunners on Twitter and tag @BillyBrewerBAFC with your progress/results, you will be entered to a prize draw to win a £20 Amazon gift voucher!
Finally, as we are doing this to promote physical and mental wellbeing, please take some time to have a look at the MIND Charity website. MIND has been the EFL’s Official Charity Partner since the 2018/19 season, and since 2018 their logo has featured on the back of every EFL player’s shirt as part of their name. Every year, one in four are affected by mental health, but many hundreds of thousands are still struggling.
